Simon Heales

Simon Heales obtained his PhD in 1987 from Aston University and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2003. He is the Director of the Neurometabolic Unit at the National Hospital (University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust), Queen Square, UK. His laboratory hosts several highly specialised laboratory services that include the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with disorders of neurotransmitter, mitochondrial and cardiolipin metabolism. Simon is also a University College London Professorial Fellow and has strong research interests (translational and basic) in identifying metabolic disease mechanisms, diagnostic methodology and development of novel treatment strategies. The latter includes the identification of biochemical mechanisms responsible for the efficacy of ketogenic diets.
